TWO CRUCIAL SKILLS THAT, MAKES A DIFFERENCE:

COMMUNICATION AND TEAMWORK The importance of skills acquisition in contemporary world cannot be overemphasized. This is because lots of people tend to pride themselves as knowledgeable and intellectuals; but most times these knowledgeable lacks the necessary skills to back up their knowledge especially in work places. While knowledge is tools acquired through observation and study via senses such as listening, watching, reading, touching, etc. that can be transferred from one person to another, in another side skills are tools refers to abilities to apply a gained knowledge to a specific situation, and are developed through experiences, trainings or practices. If one must excel and become better prepared individual to meet a desired performance, she or he must therefore acquire the necessary skills for such tasks. There is no doubt for one to develop skills, the only way is through practices; the more you do something, the better you get at it. Practice, they say, makes pe...

“NETWORKING” – MORE THAN JUST A CHAIN OF MARKETERS

The New trend in global multi-level marketing of products (especially the sale of food supplements) by foreign countries that floods the Nigerian market has made it almost impossible for people to have a wide range of meaning whenever the word “Networking” is mentioned either in a conversation or in a write-up. Networking is believed by the majority to mean a situation whereby one has to register with a company such as GNLD, Tianshi, Longrich, Alliance Global in Motion, etc. and there after gets more people to register with promised of getting rich and other form of benefits from such company. In the words of such companies, the more people one gets to register to purchased their products, the more the person's rank in the company and the more the commission by growing a chain of network. For this reason, many take to struggle to convince people to join the company where they belong and register under them,  once registered, the  struggle   continue to get other peop...
An Interesting Job Interview One of the services that are being rendered in our organisation is recruitment and staff placement. A few weeks ago I was opportune to be part of job recruitment process on behalf of our client. As we settled for the exercise, we ushered in one of the participant at be interviewed, I pick up a copy of his CV which he submitted when applying for the job and the interview commenced immediately. It was such an interesting episode that I couldn’t help but wished is an exercise that I will always be part of. As the first and second questions were asked, I saw for the first time how incompetent some of the graduates of our day can be! The participant had actually applied for the post of a field officer which has been stated on the accompanying application letter attached to the CV. But Alas! To my greatest dismay and surprise, when a question was asked about the role of a field officer in a company and how the applicant hoped to achieve the desired objecti...

IMPORTANCE OF PROFILING

It is worrisome to lose a chance of clinching a business when you think the chance was yours to be. Mama Emeka is a neighbor at my work place. In fact, her office is next to mine and we often spent time together whenever we were less busy and have by so doing established a kind of close friendship. As usual she entered my office one afternoon; “You won’t believe it my friend” she started as she made to explain her worries to me. “I lost a huge business deal yesterday” She said. Not understanding exactly what she meant by that, I asked, what do you mean a business deal? She said a friend of hers, whom she always thought might first have her in mind whenever she decides to seek for the type of business she does, have just returned from Kano yesterday, and when she  inquired  to know about her where about for some days, the friend confirmed to her that she  traveled  to Kano to meet with a woman who would be the event planner for her daughter’s wedding ...

MY LITTLE STORY:

While enjoying the evening cool breeze, looking up the sky for nothing in particular but the starry heavens, serious thoughts about Nigerian’s economy couple with the rise in unemployment crossed my mind. What should be the solutions to these problems? I asked. Immediately the range of services rendered at our organisation, Business Women Networking Ltd comes to mind. “Why not go out there and help these unemployed ones to be self-employment since it’s in your power to do so through your office?” an inner voice  said to me as I continued to wander completely lost in my thoughts. Why am I lost? This is because the attitude of Nigerians bothers me a lot; we are not service oriented people and so, are very difficult to ascribe to services even if it will make our lives better. “Please come, let’s get inside the house” I want to know more about your organisation and its contribution to the society”, that was my brother-in-law’s voice calling on me and bringing me out of m...
