An Interesting Job Interview
One of the services
that are being rendered in our organisation is recruitment and staff placement.
A few weeks ago I was opportune to be part of job recruitment process on behalf
of our client. As we settled for the exercise, we ushered in one of the
participant at be interviewed, I pick up a copy of his CV which he submitted
when applying for the job and the interview commenced immediately. It was such
an interesting episode that I couldn’t help but wished is an exercise that I
will always be part of.
As the first and
second questions were asked, I saw for the first time how incompetent some of
the graduates of our day can be! The participant had actually applied for the
post of a field officer which has been stated on the accompanying application
letter attached to the CV. But Alas! To my greatest dismay and surprise, when a
question was asked about the role of a field officer in a company and how the
applicant hoped to achieve the desired objective of the company if given the
opportunity, the applicant could hardly utter an audible sound! Couldn’t even
explain what field officer meant by expressions on his face, let alone explain
the role of a field officer! Oh good heavens! One will say!
To save the day, the applicant
was simply told that at the moment, we were looking for two male barbers and
was asked if he could do the job and he immediately answered yes he could, to ascertain
if he knows what that meant and also his level of understanding of the job, he
was further asked to demonstrate how he hoped to barbed a hair if the job was
offered to him. Well, in the end, the guy was told that he would be shortlisted
among the other applicants to be forwarded to our client for approval.
Immediately after the
job interview was over, my colleague and I present at the scene could not help
but laugh out loud! I cannot even keep myself from laughing even as I write
this article! Hahahaha!!! Oh my God! It was so funny! You needed to see the
demonstration as he stood up to prove his barbing skills using my colleague as
an example! And up till this moment of writing this article he is yet to get a
feed back!
Many applicants will
quickly understand what it means for an interview to end up with the promise to
‘get back to you’ because most times it’s simply a mild way of sending the
applicant away for poor performance at the interview! Such interviewers
actually never get back to the applicants!
To the unemployed
graduates and job seekers, there is a great lesson to be learnt. Competence and
presentation are very important for any job seeker to excel and finally get a
desired job. Many job seekers roam the streets of every town looking for jobs
and never find any, this is because they don’t have what it takes to work and
they refused to do what will assists them to eventually succeed even if an
opportunity arise for them to attend a job interview.
Applicants need to
acquire skills that can make them presentable for both themselves and their
CVs. The skills include how to express themselves before their interviewers to
avoid what has happened as said in my case study.
In fact, most have
had the same or a similar experience with the guy in this article. But for how
long must they continue to wander with no hope of ever getting their dream
jobs? How long must they continue to pray for a job and end up never getting
any?
Well, my candid
advice is that our dear unemployed graduates and job seekers should utilize the
opportunity of training on jobs and other related issues offered by many known
organizations around the world. Don’t lose another job for lack of proper
training and ignorance! Grab every opportunity and make sure you pass this
message to friends and family members and just someday, somehow God will answer
those prayers!
Our organisations
specialize in helping unemployed graduates and the likes to get hired, promoted
or learn more to earn more.
We’ve interviewed
many people across sectors and have successfully helped many job seekers get
the jobs they wanted or the promotions they deserved.
You should note that,
for every role applied for, there are many qualified candidates, but you
continue to apply for a job and failed to get the roles that could be right for
you, for you to get the job two things must be right:
1. Your CV is what
markets you first: Your CV needs to describe you briefly, preside and to clearly
show the value you might bring and should tell how you fit the role you apply
for.
2. Your interview
technique: Interviewers don’t waste time on the unqualified. Once you’ve
got the interview offer, it will be easy for you to get the job if you do the
right thing! If you are not shortlisted to the next step from every interview, it
means you are doing something that got in your way of success and therefore you
did not portrays your value. Because you had a CV that got you in, you
should get the interview technique that will get you the job.
As an experienced job
seeker you must demonstrate how or what you do to contribute to the success of
an organisation.
If in the past the
company you worked for, you were involve in sales, say how you have been able
to increased sales, give examples of how you work to closed a deal or acquired new
customers.
Team work: Your
experience with the people you work with matters this will increase your
chances of getting the job, examples of how you’ve influenced others or managed
successful teams is very important.
